We will focus in this circuit only on the fortified churches in the southern part of Transylvania. We will discover the legends of Dracula from Sighișoara, but also how ancient Saxons lived in the fortresses of Mediaș and Biertan.

St. Margaret's Church

We begin our journey in the world of Transylvanian fortifications, right in Mediaș, one of the seven Saxon seats from the beginning of the last millennium. Known to many as "the second steepest tower, after the one on the track", the Church of "Saint Margaret" with its Trumpet Tower is the focal point of the medieval fortification.

The fortified towers of Mediaș

We continue our journey, without leaving the city of Mediaș and we will visit some of the seven fortified towers of the city fortress. We will discover together the legends that hide behind these fortifications but also the history of the over 700 year old fortifications.

Sighișoara Citadel

In Sighișoara we will also visit the fortress built in the 12th century. Surrounded by a defensive wall, which in some places reaches a height of 14 meters, Sighișoara Fortress is still inhabited today. The Clock Tower, along with the other 8 towers present today, envelops a multitude of legends and stories that give fame to the region of Transylvania.

A walk thourgh Sighișoara

But to really discover the Transylvanian life, we take a walk on the cobbled streets of this magnificent city. You will have time to enjoy a coffee at one of the medieval bistros or even to visit the house where the dreaded Vlad "Dracula" Țepeș was born.

Biertan fortified church

Biertan fortified church

We make our last stop at the Citadel of Biertan. Built hundreds of years ago, this fortification is preserved in excellent condition even today. Hidden behind the hills of Biertan, the fortress has been one of the main strategic points over the years, whether it was the Ottoman attacks or from a commercial point of view.
